There is beauty in the unknown. But there is also an abundance of fear. Fear. One of the most powerful emotions. It has the ability to protect, but also holds the power to destroy.
“Fear kills more dreams than failure ever will” —Suzy Kassem
Something beautiful happens when you stop viewing fear as the enemy and learn to embrace it. When you look it directly in the eye, break down your feelings, and take steps to overcome that which holds you back.
About a year ago, I started challenging myself to do one thing every month that scared me - something that pushed me outside of my comfort zone. In case you’re wondering what my challenge for May was....YOU’RE READING IT!
Writing has always been such a vital part of my self expression, however, sharing my words with the world...not so easy. Every form of artistry- be it words, photography, paintings, acting, dancing and so on - involves integrating a piece of yourself into the work. It is precisely that uniqueness, that vulnerability, that makes art so beautiful. And it is from refusing to let my fears hold me back and embracing the very quirks that set me apart, that I have developed into the artist I am today. Someone ready to share her words with the world.
Don’t get me wrong, pushing your boundaries is not a seamless transition and it sure isn’t easy. But looking back, the majority of my most beautiful experiences involved some fear - and each one has allowed me to grow in a way I hadn’t before. So take that leap, lose sight of the shore, and wait to see the world that opens up to you.
